The Sweetwater Sessions are what curator Ashara Ekundayo calls a “multi-sensory, multi-media series of creative arts practice engagements [that give] voice to the dramatic collaborative process between artist, spirit, tradition, and community in the design of freedom narratives for contemporary culture.” This Black author reading series, hosted by Creative Arts Practice Fellows, allows audience members to engage with a writer-curated atmosphere. Charif Shanahan will close out this season’s final session. Shanahan is author of 2017’s Into Each Room We Enter Without Knowing. He has previously won the Crab Orchard Series in Poetry First Book Award in 2015 and was a nominee for the Pushcart Prize last year. Currently, he’s a Wallace Stegner Fellow in Poetry at Stanford University. Join Shanahan at Omi Gallery this Friday evening for one last chance to stimulate your senses this season until The Sweetwater Sessions return in the Fall.
Friday, June 9, 6:30pm-8:30pm, $7/adv and $10/at door, 2323 Broadway, Oakland, SweetwaterSessions14.Eventbrite.com.
