The Oakland restaurateur Charlie Hallowell’s bimonthly philanthropic Sunday Suppers series continues this week with two seatings at Penrose (3311 Grand Ave., Oakland), Hallowell’s North African-inspired California cuisine restaurant. As always, the meal — priced on a sliding scale starting at $60 a person — will feature multiple courses, including a little-gem salad; ricotta served with asparagus, farro, and kumquats; and braised lamb with flatbreads and chickpea ragu. Proceeds from this week’s Sunday Supper will go toward supporting Beats, Rhymes & Life, an Oakland-based community organization that uses an innovative “hip hop therapy” model in its work with troubled teens.
