.Report: Army of Community College Students Unfit for Class

Like they say: Why do they call them community colleges? ‘Cause anyone in the community can get in. A new report by the state Legislative Analyst’s Office declared that hundreds of thousands of students at California’s community colleges are utterly unprepared for even the mild standards required of them. Because colleges are required to spend fifty percent of their budgets on classroom education, administrators can’t spend money on counselors and tutors, which the LAO’s report suggests is the only way to teach these underachievers the math and language skills they will need to matriculate. The report recommends that the “fifty percent rule” be change to reflect the dismal reality of California’s student talent pool.
