Protest Statue Up on Berkeley Pedestrian Bridge

The Chron takes a gander at the new statue rising on the pedestrian bridge hanging over I-80 in Berkeley. The statue depicts numerous instances in the city’s history of protest, including the Free Speech Movement, the disabled rights movement, and the recent tree-sit near Memorial Stadium. CalTrans officials aren’t terribly pleased with the statue, arguing that it might distract motorists and fall down someday. But ever since Berkeley officials moved the statue off CalTrans property, they don’t really have a say anymore.
