According to themovieinsider.com, Pixar is negotiating for the film rights to John Carter of Mars, the fantasy novel series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan. The story: Civil War soldier Carter somehow gets transported to Mars and has adventures. Such a straight fantasy plot would be a departure for the Emeryville-based animation company, which usually does comedies about talking appliances or something.
