Russ Giuntini, ex-state Senator Don Perata’s choice for Alameda County district attorney, has abruptly retired from the San Francisco DA’s Office after getting caught up in San Francisco’s police crime lab scandal. According to the Chron, Giuntini had come under fire for failing to pass on key information about police civilian technician Deborah Madden, who allegedly had been stealing cocaine and other drugs from the crime lab for her personal use. Madden’s actions have caused numerous drug cases in San Francisco to unravel and could sabotage the campaign of SF DA Kamala Harris, who is the Democratic nominee for state attorney general.
