According to the Oakland Tribune, Barack Obama has picked Oakland attorney Tony West to run the civil division of the Attorney General’s office. West, a partner at Morrison & Foerster, has a long history of public service; he worked in Clinton’s Justice Department, prosecuted a child pornography ring as an assistant U.S. Attorney, and advised state Attorney General Bill Lockyer on high-tech crime and the Microsoft anti-trust case. He first met Obama after the 2004 speech that launched his political career, and helped raise $500,000 for his presidential campaign. Now he’s off to Washington. Tony, we hardly knew ye!
