Save the date, Oakland. Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan is getting married, she announced this week. Last November, according to Kaplan’s office, the at-large council member “got down on one knee,” placed a tanzanite ring on her girlfriend’s finger and proposed.
Kaplan and her fiancée, Pamela Rosin, both 43, are set to be married in a private ceremony on July 26. The couple met two years ago and now share a home in North Oakland.

“I feel so blessed to have Pamela in my life,” said Kaplan, who is Oakland’s first openly gay female councilmember “We both deeply value our love with each other and our work to improve the world around us. She has a beautiful heart, she makes me laugh — and I have to say: she gives great fashion advice.”
The summer nuptials may not be the only excitement coming to Kaplan’s life in the next few months. Many City Hall observers believe she is poised to enter the crowded field hoping to unseat Mayor Jean Quan this November.
Over the past few months, polling has consistently shown Kaplan as the likely front runner for the job, if she were to enter the race. However, time is of the essence for Kaplan, who risks having a shrinking pot of campaign finance opportunities with every week that passes.
Although the official deadline for mayoral candidates to enter the race is not until early August, there are already sixteen candidates, including Quan, who have filed paperwork to form campaign committees.
