.Oakland Council Deadlocked on Bad Law

The Oakland City Council couldn’t make up its mind last night on what to do about Measure OO, a badly written law that would force the city to spend far more money than it has on after-school programs. According to the Trib, the council tied 4-4 on a motion by Vice Mayor Ignacio De La Fuente to put a measure on the ballot that would effectively overturn Measure OO. The council also deadlocked 4-4 on a separate motion by Councilwoman Pat Kernighan that would have asked voters to modify the measure by decreasing the amount of money the city spends on kids programs. The council is to take up the issue again in two weeks, and ask Mayor Ron Dellums to break the deadlock.
