1. Despite troubling signs from Major League Baseball, Fremont remains determined to get the A’s. The city plans to use a $333,000 federal grant to study possible future uses for the former NUMMI auto plant, including a new Oakland A’s ballpark, according to the Chron. But the newspaper also reports that league officials appear to have ruled out Fremont as the future home of the A’s and are deciding between Oakland and San Jose. The league also is reportedly concerned about Oakland’s ability to attract enough corporate sponsors to make a privately financed stadium viable in Jack London Square.
2. The price tag for the proposed bullet train from San Francisco to Los Angeles continues to rise, as Peninsula cities say they want the train to run underground, the Chron reports. Maybe it’s time to move the train back to its earlier East Bay route?
