Kaiser Gets Hit by Dems’ New Labor Law

Okay, so the House of Representatives has passed a law allowing workers to join unions merely by signing a union card, thereby avoiding all those tedious captive worker meetings and management threats. So who’s the first company to get it in the gut? Try Oakland’s own Kaiser Permanente. According to the AFL/CIO blog (yes, it has one too – who’s next, Vladimir Putin? 101 tips on thallium poisoning?), a majority of some 800 Southern California Kaiser nurses signed union membership cards. Kaiser management promptly rolled over and recognized the union, bringing the total number of unionized Kaiser employees to around 10,000. Welcome to the wonderful world of third-party contract mediation, Kaiser nurses! See you at the next grievance filing workshop!
