.Justin Timberlake’s Adventures in Bollywood

Just when we thought the cloying, tweed-and-herringbone-wearing, guitar-strumming, GAP ad-quality, trying-to-be-a-young-Adonis-but-not-quite-making-it sensitive-white-boy image was going out of style … boom, Robin Thicke and Mickey Avalon burst out with hit songs on the radio, staking out their respective places as disciples of Justin Timberlake, the undisputed high priest of sensitive white boys.
Indeed, JT’s 2006 hit FutureSex/LoveSounds hit Billboard‘s number one during its first week on the streets, earning plaudits from the notoriously fussy, disaffected critics on PitchforkMedia.com — who evidently found something worth writing about in the singer’s mix of percussive, club-ready hits and valiant attempts at R&B. And let’s face it, some of us at EarBud consider JT a guilty pleasure.

Shut up, okay? Just shut up.

We can uh, kind of atone for this cardinal sin of music criticism by listening to JT remixes instead of the real thing. Because, you know, remixes provide that extra layer of ironic distance and emotional detachment. Our personal favorite? A Bollywood reinterpretation of the Snoop Dogg/JT vehicle “Signs” by UK-based DJ Xtreme (aka Nikesh Parmar). Evidently a fellow fan (and apparently unwilling to apologize for it), Parmar also does a raga interpretation of “My Love” and abrasive techno rendition of “SexyBack.” Check out his remix of Flukes’ “Wifey Riddm,” set to a montage of ultra-cheesy Bollywood love scenes (note the costume changes). Sweet.
