.Gallup Happiness Index: Oakland Is a 69

Yeah, we always knew it. According to Gallup‘s 2010 composite index of well-being, the 9th Congressional District ranks 69 on a scale that runs from 57 (not so well) to 73 (livin’ it up). Gallup considered such factors as work environment, cholesterol, depression, fruits and vegetables, smoking, stress, and “community satisfaction” when it randomly surveyed 1,000 American adults each day to inquire about their quality of life. The poll appeared as a cool interactive map in the March 5 issue of New York Times. Apparently, we’re doing just as well as the equally sexy state of Wyoming, better than most of New York, and just a hair better than Los Angeles. Oh haaaaay.
