Because of heavy rain, the Oakland First Fridays street fair will be canceled on December 5th. The popular monthly event makes space for artists to sell work in the street by blocking off a portion of Telegraph Avenue in Downtown Oakland.
All indoor events — including those associated with Art Murmur— will still take place, and galleries in the area will open their doors as usual. The fair portion of first Friday festivities will also be canceled on January 2nd, because of the holidays and likely rain.
In an announcement of the cancellation, coordinator Sarah Kidder said,”Many Oakland First Fridays participants and attendees would love the event to happen rain or shine. Unfortunately, artwork, music equipment, and crafts are not water-proof; wet weather plus electricity creates an unsafe environment, and we strive for the event to be safe as well as exciting.”
The First Fridays street fair will resume on February 6th, 2015.
