.Feds Make Real Attempt to Save Salmon

After decades of favoring the needs of cities, suburbs, and rural areas at the expense of wildlife, federal regulators have finally put forth a comprehensive water plan to save California’s decimated salmon population. Commercial fishermen and environmentalists are applauding the long-awaited opinion from the National Marine Fisheries Service. But the governor, agricultural interests, and water agencies that depend on the Delta for water supplies are strongly criticizing it, according to the Chron. That’s not surprising, because those interests would much rather continue to deplete the state’s water supply and wreak further havoc on the environment than embrace the strict conservation measures needed to keep the state’s salmon population from certain extinction.
