Counties Get Ready for Tough Times

The San Francisco Chronicle has a troubling story about how Bay Area counties, already hit with staggering drops in revenue, are about to be hit with new cuts whenever the state legislature finishes its emergency budget session. Although by some miracle Alameda County managed to balance its budget so far this fiscal year, Contra Costa has been forced to cut some $16 million from its employment and health and human services departments. Other counties around the Bay Area face similar deficits and cutbacks.
