Best Place to Be Creative

HUB Oakland

Everyone knows that creative types tend to be tortured and isolated, penning their poems or painting their portraits with an open bottle of Jack Daniel’s always within reach. Right? Well, not exactly, according to the folks at HUB Oakland, the East Bay’s link in a global chain of more than fifty co-working spaces meant to spark communities of innovative thinkers. Currently in a temporary location, HUB plans to move in October to a 16,000-square-foot spot in Uptown that will include offices, collaborative space, conference rooms, an art gallery, and a meditation and yoga area. Members can join at varying levels. HUB Oakland isn’t only about providing workspace; it also hosts events intended to get the inspiration flowing: The Pachamama Alliance and YES! magazine recently hosted American economist David Korten, who spoke on sacred activism; and Ashara Ekundayo, DJ Divinity, Prescott Circus Theatre, and Destiny Arts Center hosted the “Grow Sessions” at the Oakland Indie Awards, just to name a few. Check out the HUB — you’ll want to be there when the next big idea hits.
