At six-foot-one, with big hoop earrings, Oakland comedian Robin Cee cuts a striking figure — she might not look like a celebrity per se, but she’s the kind of person who will attract eyes upon walking into a room. That’s not to mention her voice, which generally hovers in the low, gravelly, female baritone register. For a comedian, that’s a great asset. When Cee headlined Comedy Off Broadway at Miss Pearl’s Jam House in January, she regaled a small but rapt audience with spot-on impressions of Marge Simpson, Ethel Merman, and Macy Gray. She was also charmingly self-deprecating, describing herself as “the dorky black chick who always gets thrown on odd bills.” (Her material is clean, which actually makes her an outlier in the Bay Area comedy scene.) Cee’s website includes a GIF of the comedian busting a few freaky moves on her lawn. The tagline: “Am I dancing… or in pain?” Oh, come on. It’s cute.
