East Bay MUD Making Headway on Biodiesel

Scientists at the East Bay Municipal Utility District have been experimenting with making biodiesel fuel out of so-called brown grease from restaurant sewers, the Oakland Tribune reports. Early experiments have been successful, and if emission tests indicate that the resultant fuel is not unduly polluting, the agency may proceed with plans to build a plant to process several hundred thousand gallons a year.
