Craig Newmark Will Headline Cal’s Commencement Ceremonies

This Tuesday, Craigslist founder Craig Newmark will address the UC Berkeley graduating class of 2008 at the Greek Theater. As everyone knows by now, Newmark changed the face of classified advertising when he started a free, informal email list offering knick-knacks for sale. The model worked so well that it has spread to every major city in America, rocking the world of old media, which depended on classified advertising revenue in its business plan, but delighting ordinary buyers and sellers everywhere. According to the East Bay Business Times, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau and East Bay writer Ishmael Reed will also offer a homily or two.
