The Oakland Tribune‘s Josh Richman reports that superdelegate and Fremont Congressman Pete Stark has jumped off the fence and thrown his support behind Barack Obama in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Stark doesn’t care for Obama’s reluctance to use mandates to secure universal health care, but said Obama’s momentum, and Hillary Clinton’s support for the Iraq war, sealed the deal for him. The piece has a nice roundup of Stark’s district, as well as his commanding lock on constituent support. In addition, Richman makes an interesting point about Jerry McNerny, who unseated crazed rancher Richard Pombo but has a tenuous hold on his district; we’d recommend reading the whole thang. Still, Stark does seem a little late to the party.
