Big Lake Merritt Traffic Project Starting

Lakeshore and Lakeside Avenues are about to undergo major traffic reconfigurations, according to the Oakland Tribune. Both streets will drop from four lanes of car traffic to two apiece, with new bike lanes making up the gap. Lakeshore will get a left-hand turn lane, and Lakeside will get more parking. In addition, the city will plant dozens of new trees, a new pedestrian trail, benches, crosswalks, hey, there’s something for the whole family! The project should be finished in about a year.
