Updated: Kolakowski Wins Judge’s Race

Victoria Kolakowski appears to have won the race for Alameda County Superior Court judge over John Creighton, according to updated results. Kolakowski leads Creighton 50.76 to 48.26, a difference of 7,392 votes. The updated results, posted Tuesday evening, include about 90,000 85,000 ballots counted over the past several days from around the county. As a result, Kolakowski’s lead appears to be too large for Creighton to overcome, and means that she likley will become the first transgendered superior court judge in the nation’s history.

Update 11:55 a.m.: “I’m deeply honored to have this opportunity to serve the people of Alameda County,” Kolakowski said, during a phone interview this morning. “It’s been a very long, tough election and I truly believe that the voters of Alameda County weighed our qualifications.”
