.Glamorgeddon Limo Lectures

Lectures in a hot pink hummer driving around Oakland.

To celebrate the kick off of East Bay Open Studios this weekend, Pro Arts gallery is hosting a weekend-long art show called Artists Live Here. The event will attempt to erode the distinction between work that’s presented inside versus outside of an art institution by showcasing fourteen site-specific installations that will be situated throughout Frank H. Ogawa Plaza. But, to broaden its range outside the gallery, Pro Arts will also be hosting “Glamorgeddon Limo Lectures” from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday. What that means: Performance artist Johanna Poethig has curated a series of four fifty-minute lectures that will take place inside a garish, hot-pink hummer limousine as it drives around Oakland. I know, that sounds kind of horrible and bad for the climate. I agree. But, that’s partially the point. As the gallery put it, it’s exploring the “satirical edge of excess.” Plus, the lecture topics sound worthwhile. For instance, John Jotas Leanos and Tiny’s “Relocated Memories: Strategic Amnesias, Blocked Accounts and Deleted Hard Drives” will present “aphoristic interventions into forgotten, displaced, and gentrified urban spaces.” And Violet Juno will present a talk about the relationship between creative art practice and neuroplasticity. The limo will let passengers off after every talk. Each is $15. See the schedule and reserve tickets online.
