Here’s a surprising bit of good news from the cash-strapped local theater scene: Concord’s three-decade-old Willows Theatre, whose death we reported in late 2009, is set to reopen at its original location in Willows Shopping Center. The theater is still recovering from several years of financial setbacks, caused by declining ticket sales and weakened donor funding. Yet it revived under the leadership of new artistic director Eric Inman, albeit with a reduced payroll. Layoffs cut the staff from seven full-time positions to two, managing director David Faustina told the San Francisco Chronicle. At this point, he and Inman are cautiously optimistic. Willows’ season starts January 31 at the Cabaret in Martinez, and resumes at Willows Mainstage in March.
