The Bay Area leads the nation in so-called “mega-commutes,” in which workers drive fifty miles or more and ninety minutes or more to and from the office, according to a new Census analysis, the Mercury News reports. These long-distance commuters tend to live in far-flung suburbs and drive to work to the urban Bay Area. The large number of mega-commuters also shows that it will be difficult for the Bay Area to meet the region’s greenhouse-gas reduction goals.
