Soul Clap Dance Competition Tonight at the Uptown

New York City DJ Jonathan Toubin brings his 45 RPM dance competitions to Oakland’s Uptown tonight. Called Soul Clap, the all-night dancing competition will feature the music of “lots of early 60s new breed r&b, mod soul, mid-60s boogaloo soul, and pre-funk (primarily from around 1962 to 1967) – heavy beats, distorted guitars, screaming, etc.” Judges Penelope Houston of the Avengers, Oscar Michel of the Gris Gris, Zoe Gholson of Mog, Spencer Cooper of Amoeba, and Zola Goodrich of Make Me, Boyskout, and Audiowhore, will award a whopping $100 grand prize at midnight. It starts at 9 p.m. and costs $5.
