.San Francisco International Film Festival at BAMPFA

For the past 60 years, the San Francisco International Film Festival has stayed on the other side of the bridge. But this year, the festival is making appearances at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives. The festival, which started on April 6 and ends on April 16 (read last week’s festival preview on our website), still has films of note left in its arsenal. Among those is the Austrian-Italian film Mister Universo (Friday, April 14), a film about a young lion tamer leaves the circus and wanders the Italian countryside in search for his childhood lucky charm. On Sunday, April 16, you can catch The Ornithologist, another absurdist film that follows a lost Portuguese ornithologist searching for civilization. But there is one film that will strike a heavy chord with most locals: Peter Nicks’ The Force (Saturday, April 15; pictured): The documentary follows the Oakland Police Department from 2014 to 2016, capturing first-hand their response to the Black Lives Matter protests and the 2016 scandal involving an underage sex worker that was first reported by the Express.

April 6-16, $13-15. 2155 Center St, Berkeley. BAMPFA.Berkeley.edu.
