Richmond Teachers Accept No Pay Raises

Teachers in the West Contra Costa Unified School District, which includes Richmond and El Cerrito, have narrowly approved a new three-year contract that calls for no pay raises, the Chron reports. The pact, which won in a 423-415 vote, ends an 18-month stalemate with the district that included a strike. The deal also comes in stark contrast to the decision last week by Oakland teachers to turn down a similar no-raise pact and hold out for a 15 percent pay increase over three years.
