[jump] The messages in Hay Sús’ music underscore his activism. With his latest track, “Black Panther Rebels” featuring Lil Dev, the rapper takes a defiant stance against racism, police brutality, and systemic inequality, critiquing the ways that, even though many facets of Black culture are currently trendy, the assault on Black lives shows no signs of abating.

Along with the new song, Hay Sús also released a powerful public statement calling for people to act against injustice, which you can read below. To get the ball rolling, he’s hosting another produce giveaway at the People’s Baptist Church (8825 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland) to feed the hungry on July 30 from noon to 3 p.m.

Hay Sús’ work reminds us that, though protesting and writing to our elected officials is essential, showing compassion for our neighbors is also an integral part of the movement for equality.
