The Alameda County District Attorney’s office is investigating charges that the Oakland school district overpaid a local law firm for handling contracts that could have been prepared by the district’s own legal staff. According to the Trib, School Board member Noel Gallo raised questions about the firm’s relationship with the district last month, and his complaints sparked the investigation. It appears the district’s general counsel had no oversight over the firm’s dealings, were handled directly by Director of Facilities Tim White. The law firm, Bryant and Brown, received more than $800,000 from this business.
