Nigerians Talk Tough with Chevron

After occupying four oil pumping stations in the Nigerian delta, gangs of local villagers have apparently agreed to leave after oil giants Royal Dutch Shell and San Ramon-based Chevron agreed to give local businesses contracts to supply speed boats as part of the operation. As Reuters reports, unrest in the region grew out of a disatisfaction that oil companies had damaged the local environment without offering much of the profits, but the violence has lately degraded into a wave of ransom abductions and common lawlessness.
