It’s a well-known fact that we all scream for ice cream. A perhaps lesser-known fact is that some of those screams are being directed specifically toward ice cream’s less fattening relative, sorbet. Most notably, Scream Sorbet — and, most importantly, the Oakland company’s sorbet sandwiches. Gone are the days when our only option for a cold, creamy dessert sandwiched between two baked goods was a scoop of vanilla ice cream mashed inside two soggy chocolate “cookies.” Also gone is the notion that sorbet is somehow incapable of being a decadent and satiating dessert. If you’re skeptical, stop by Scream’s Temescal storefront and pick up one of its pre-made sorbet sandwiches. The treats are hand-crafted from fresh-baked cookies and the company’s signature sorbet, and among the rotating and mouthwatering options are ingenious flavor combinations like cardamom-orange cookies with pistachio sorbet, ginger-molasses cookies with coffee-almond sorbet, and Meyer lemon cookies with pink lemon sorbet. Aahhh!
