Ivan Medina Takes Second at the Oakland Marathon

Triple Crown champ from last summer proves his mettle, again.

After winning the Tilden Tough Ten and Lake Chabot Half-Marathon last summer, Hayward runner Ivan Medina creamed his competition at Sunday’s Oakland Marathon. Coming in at a remarkable 2:36:25 (about 5 minutes behind winner Tony Torres), Medina took second place over all, and was the only local runner to make it into the Top 5. Twenty-three-year-old Medina grew up in Michoacán, Mexico and immigrated to the US at age fifteen. Last summer he clocked 80-115 miles per week, while juggling classes at Chabot College and a job delivering pizza for Domino’s.
