Headiest Local Brew

HopTown IPA

Dave Heist’s HopTown Brewing Company of Pleasanton is perhaps the East Bay’s best-kept brewery secret. It takes some hunting to find bottles of this micro-microbrewery’s ales, but the search is worth it. And the experts agree — in the past couple of years HopTown’s Paint the Town Red ale and HopTown IPA have both won gold medals at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival. We like the IPA the best — it’s sweet and rich without losing its edge, and hopped up high enough that floral and citrus notes shine out.
