Guv Vows Veto on Dems’ Budget Bill

The Democrats may have found a sneaky way to get around the two-thirds majority rule and pass new taxes (sorry, “fees”) in the state legislature, but the Chron reports that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will absolutely, positively veto it. The guv is unhappy because the bill doesn’t contain enough of his economic stimulus package, and doesn’t cut spending enough. (The Dems’ package cuts education by $2.5 billion, for example, while Schwarzenegger wants $9.8 billion in cuts.) Democratic legislative leaders called his veto threat counterproductive in such critical times.
