It appears they may have, at least according to an independent investigation. The investigation by the respected law firm Meyers Nave concluded that it is still unknown as to whether Grant and his friends had been involved in a fight on a BART train the night Grant was killed, according to the Chron. In other words, it’s not clear more than seven months after Grant was fatally shot in the back as he lay on the ground by then BART cop Johannes Mehserle whether BART cops should have detained him in the first place. No wonder BART Police Chief Gary Gee is hanging it up.
