Gamer geeks are not typically a classy or well-scented bunch. The true sign of a great game store is a staff that understands this and takes great care to eliminate foul odors and egotistical Comic Book Guy attitudes. And EndGame, in Old Oakland, does just this. The store is beautifully laid out, with a vaulted upper area reserved for the many wargamers, Magic dealers, and role players who haunt this popular geek hangout. Downstairs is a vast selection of games ranging from dungeon-crawling dice games to classics such as Go, chess, and Axis and Allies. There’s also a terrific used games section in back that offers cheap solutions to group boredom. And thanks to that upper deck, the offensive odors that sometimes accompany diehard dungeonmasters don’t waft down to inconvenience the shoppers below.
