.Blingiest Jewelry

Rosalina Lydster, Jewelry by Rosalina

When the San Francisco Ballet celebrated the opening night of its 72nd season, Paris Hilton showed up, helping to support not only the dance but also her jewelry maker. Paired with an Elie Saab floral gown, Paris’ pearl and diamond necklace received raves from onlookers and the press. Its bold and lavish design reflected creator Rosalina Lydster’s personality. Lydster, who lives in Fremont, has had a busy year, crisscrossing the country promoting Jewelry by Rosalina and adding a number of A-listers to her clientele list, which includes Tom Hanks, Adrien Brody, Joss Stone, Tori Spelling, not to mention the It girl herself, Paris Hilton. Pretty good for a company that started just three years ago. In 2002, while working in investment banking, Lydster took a jewelry collection she had designed to Neiman Marcus in Las Vegas — a good place to start, she says, because “what I do is very bright, very bling-bling.” The jewelry department manager was impressed enough to contact the buyers and soon after, schedule a trunk show. Her pieces, which cost from $5,000 to $500,000 and sell at Neiman Marcus stores nationwide, vary from minimalist to extravagant. Her latest Indochine collection veers to the latter and features one-of-a-kind dragon motifs inspired by the Chinese zodiac. If you have the bling to afford these miniature works of art, though, you’ll have to cross the bridge and purchase them in that other part of the Bay Area.
