.Best Place to Have a Wedding

UC Berkeley's Botanical Garden

Where else can you have your nuptials in a redwood grove and your reception next to a tropical forest? The “Bot Garden,” as some call it, has recreated flora environments from across the globe, ranging from hot “new desert” to cool Japanese pools with koi. Not only can your guests enjoy a free tour of the grounds, but you can skimp on hiring a florist. Those cut roses pale in comparison to a full hillside of blooming rose bushes. Small gatherings can be accommodated for as little as $100, and full-size weddings go for $400 and up. Of course, there are some limitations to having your wedding here. The Bot garden’s first mission is, well, to grow plants, so cross off the plan to throw rice or let loose exotic butterflies. You might inadvertently sow Uncle Ben’s among the Calochortus umbellatus. As for price, the Bot garden beats the popular Brazilian Room hands down. And here, it’s possible to reserve a spring or summer date before your kids enter kindergarten.
