Colorful as a kiosk on the streets of Marseille, the booth in Copeland’s Sports’ parking lot — on the southeastern corner of the intersection of Shattuck and Cedar — sports fleshy lilies galore, gerbera daisies as bright as good dreams, and all manner of exotica as well as your old floral standbys. Standing on the sidewalk making your choice — two of those red ones and that curly thing, thank you — and having the young florists wrap it up for you feels continental indeed, what with buses zipping past and people sipping cappuccino at cafe tables across the street. Then again, all those posies displayed in the open air have the same effect as puppies and kittens waiting for adoption at the pound. I’m pretty … take me home. Can’t resist? Flowers never need distemper shots.
