Alameda Freecycle is a Web-based group for people in and around Alameda who are trying to break the consumer cycle. If you’re looking for something, it’s a handy place to find it without shopping or paying money. The other side is that you can list items you no longer want for folks who may be in need. In Alameda, where it seems every yard has a fruit tree of some kind, this is a great way to make sure the fruits of your overbearing trees don’t go to waste. You can find folks getting rid of bagloads of lemons, oranges, quince, limes, and apples, depending on the season. There are requirements for posting, found on the Web site, and a quick signup process. Contact group owner Chantal Currid at [email protected] with specific questions. There are similar groups for Oakland and other East Bay cities.
