There’s nothing like being deprived of Peet’s Coffee for a while to remind you of how excellent it is — a visit to that dark brown haven of dark brown indulgence is even better after a dry spell. East Bay caffeine fiends are especially lucky, with thirteen Peet’s locations to choose from throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties. A stroll inside bears your usual choices: espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and the various cold versions of the aforementioned. With its fresh-roasted beans, some Clover milk, and perhaps a bit of Scharffen Berger’s chocolate (if you’re on the mocha route), Peet’s baristas concoct what may be the standard espresso drink upon which all others can be judged. The mochas aren’t overly sweet, the espresso is smooth, and the froth is usually perfect.
