We tried to pick out a favorite dessert at this Gourmet Ghetto patisserie owned by the Ritz-Carlton’s former pastry chef and, in the end, just couldn’t. We kept going back and back for new ones, and arguing over the merits of each (well, arguing over who’d get the last bite). The chocoholics adored the flourless chocolate cake made with ground almonds, its rich crumb coated in a skin of melted chocolate crowned with a chocolate-hazelnut rose. The fruit-lovers sighed over each bite of the strawberry torte layered with genoise, pistachio custard, and meringue. And the nostalgics sucked every bit of rum out of the dense, liquor-soaked rum baba topped with custard and fresh fruits. We won’t even mention the fights that broke out over that bag of cookies.
