When you step into Knimble Clothing & Knick-Knack, it’s easy to forget that you’re standing among previously worn clothes, not in a high-priced designer boutique. This consignment shop is not trying to be spare. It’s upscale, with doilies, antique furniture, and Eastern-inspired fans on display. In addition to recycled clothing, the store offers a gift section, mostly with new items, that are “eco friendly, fair trade, and locally made.” The first Knimble opened in 2005 in Cotati by Amanda Messbarger. She opened a second store in San Rafael in 2012, and then a third store in Oakland last year, proving that the Bay Area loves it some unique, recycled clothing and wares.
