When Vitus opened last year, its place in Oakland’s ballooning bar scene was not yet clear. What it has turned out to be is not only a place to drink and hear music, but a great place to play games. Its well-stocked arcade features AC/DC- and medieval-themed pinball machines, among others. Amateur gamers and wizened pinball elites scrap and shit-talk all night (and especially durings Vitus’ bimonthly pinball tournaments) as the machines ring away, racking up points and high scores. But Vitus’ most exciting arcade game is its skee-ball, which you can occasionally play for free. In addition to the festive environment brought on by the games, the bar has a full bar, including a trusty supply of Linden Street beer. There’s lots of space to gather, so whether you’re there for music or just drinks, it’s also a great place to game.
