.Berkeley Council: Charge Yoo with War Crimes

Well, they did it. Last night, during a fraught meeting complete with Gitmo jumpsuits and Holocaust survivors, the Berkeley City Council voted to ask the incoming Obama Attorney General and the Northern California U.S. Attorney to charge Boalt law professor John Yoo with “war crimes.” According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Council stopped short of calling on UC Berkeley to make it possible for law students to avoid taking his classes. Councilman Max Anderson, who claimed to have witnessed torture while a soldier in Vietnam, broke down in tears as he said, “John Yoo took a material involvement in the deaths and torture of untold numbers of people. … The broken bodies, the broken spirits, the broken trust he wrought with his actions – that’s why they call these crimes against humanity.”
