.Aquarium Age

For the week of November 5-11, 2008.

Let me be clear from the start: It’s impossible to write this week’s column. I’m writing five days before the election, and my crystal ball is no magic Palantir from Middle Earth. I have no idea who won. Which means this column is neither a victory dance nor a solemn contemplation on disappointment. So humbled by the knowledge that what you are about to read will be filtered through my unknowable future and your revealed past, I will do my best to forecast the present.

The week unfolds as any other week dominated by the release of a powerful planetary interaction would. It’s a week of intense catharsis, as all sorts of repressed, suppressed, oppressed emotions discharge during daily routines, transforming regular life into nonstop process therapy. Remember, we are in the wake of the first exact contact of the Saturn/Uranus opposition — there are four more to take place over the next nearly two years. And the aftereffects of the aftermath are likely to be stronger than the tumultuous warm-up to the actual event. I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just trying to dispel the idea that the election is a panacea for what ails. The election decides our collective approach to the huge amount of work that lies ahead.

But back to this week. As the intensity of the Saturn/Uranus release gathers energy, what didn’t feel safe to say or actually what wasn’t safe to say last week is gonna come streamin’ live from all sorts of feeds. Expect some of what’s said to be angry, edgy, outraged, irritated, and defensive. It’s a rule of emotional physics: the degree to which bottled-up feelings erupt is directly proportional to the amount of time they’ve been held under wraps. What’s more, Mars continues to sextile Uranus as well as trine Saturn, and its presence fuels strident opinions and unilateral stands of righteousness. Because this Mars/Saturn/Uranus signature has been operating for the last week, some of what transpires will feel all too familiar. Also, all week long, the Sun trails behind Mars, transiting the same degrees, and as the Sun moves into a trine with Saturn as well as a sextile with Uranus, many of us will feel an über-need to be free. Declarations of independence abound. And who knows, maybe a rogue state or two will secede from the union?

Fortunately, Jupiter, the planet of great good fortune, imbues our extended “morning after” with an optimistic air as it trines Saturn and sextiles Uranus. I’m grateful for Jupiter’s presence. We need its farsighted creativity as well as its humor to close the chasms that divide and separate us. We need Jupiter’s faith and hope for the future. But most importantly, if we are going to heal, we need to have faith in each other.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

ARIES March 21-April l9

Yes, the air is agitated, and yes, again, there are battles to be won, but while your innate tendency is to charge in headfirst, you may be surprised to find yourself in the peacemaker role. Remember the old adage about catching flies with honey and you’ll prosper in many ways.

TAURUS April 20-May 20

Of course you want to break free — who wouldn’t want to lose the yoke of restraint? But the situation will only resolve if all parties are honest about their needs. Be candid with your significant others and they will respond with equal sincerity.

GEMINI May 21-June 21

You’re right — hard work will work a multitude of wonders, so roll up your sleeves and dig in. Just be careful to avoid overextending yourself. Be focused, determined, and enthusiastic, but also be sure to relax.

CANCER June 22-July 22

Rather than dwell on the possible pitfalls, concentrate on improving the structure of your plan. If you can present a workable program, you’ll attract beneficial assistance from significant others, personal and professional.

LEO July 23-August 22

There are tangible, practical steps you can take to improve your financial situation, but it’s hard to recognize those opportunities amidst the stress. Manage tension through meditation, exercise, or other healthy outlets, and you’ll create greater clarity.

VIRGO August 23-September 22

There are still lots of opportunities for heartfelt communication with friends and family. Continue to express your ideas, but as you do, continue to find the positive ground of a win/win compromise that makes everybody, including you, feel better.

LIBRA September 23-October 22

Circumstances are confusing and clarity isn’t going to come easily. But if you’re willing to be innovative and consider unusual but creative solutions, you’ll weed out what’s unnecessary, irrelevant, and impeding your success.

SCORPIO October 23-November 21

While the external world may be wobbling, your internal world rocks steady. So steady, you will be a bright example of how to handle a crisis. Don’t hold back — your valuable insight is needed as well as appreciated.

SAGITTARIUS November 22-December 21

You’re still at risk of brooding your enthusiastic spirit into a negative mind-set, which makes it important for you to do whatever it takes to bolster your optimism. Accentuate the positive and you’ll flourish.

CAPRICORN December 22-January 19

Your dance card is so busy, you’ll have to pace yourself to make it through the whirlwind. But that doesn’t mean you should curtail your fun. Joy is what’s needed right now more than ever, so do whatever it is you do to be happy.

AQUARIUS January 20-February 18

The good news is clarity is your ally, especially as you attempt to handle a multitude of tasks. But that doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help if you need it.

PISCES February 19-March 20

Logic is effective in certain instances, but intuition can often grasp the ineffable. So rather than relying on a linear explanation, be willing to explore alternative reasons for your current situation.
