Most Aromatic Place to Buy Kimchi

Koreana Plaza

When you’re strolling down Telegraph Avenue, the five blocks proceeding and following Koreana Plaza are marked by a distinct feeling of union. As it turns out, the owners of the Plaza, an excellent Korean grocery store, have slowly expanded their stockrooms to encompass many of the abandoned buildings and shop stalls in the area. These buildings are used to house the oodles of products these folks import from Korea every day. As a result, you’ll be able to find cheap treats from all over the Korean peninsula. Whether digging through the fifty-cent snack pile or pulling out kimchi by the pound, you’ll find tons of goodies, each with its own unique odor and flavor. Unlike some Asian markets, this is one in which you can breathe deeply — the scents contained within are mysterious, spicy, and often unique, but rarely offensive to Western noses.
