At last count, the Englander boasted around sixty beers on tap. That’s enough to keep you drunk for a couple of weeks — or at least a couple of long days. The line of taps at this sports bar stretches a good twelve feet, almost the same width as the five big-screen televisions overhead combined. There are a couple of servers on staff, so you don’t need to get up from your seat in the middle of a game to buy another round — simply point and grunt. The selection ranges from Alaska Amber to Young’s Oatmeal Stout, and includes local favorites such as Sierra Nevada and Black Diamond, as well as Belgian, German, and British ales. The bar’s devotion to authenticity, however, means that the Englander closes at English pub time: 11 p.m. Best arrive in the early afternoon if you want to get all your drinking done before then.
